We are looking at putting in new countertops in our kitchen and are weighing all of our options. We are interested in Corian, Quartz, and Granite. We have priced the "big boys" and want to consider the individual contractors in our area. Any suggestions or ideas would be most appreciated.

We have Zodiaq (quartz) and are very pleased with it. We were initially going to use granite but everything I read indicated that quartz was more scratch and stain resistant.

I worked with Levi at Metro Granite. Got a fabulous kitchen for a great price. From what I've heard, Levi has left, but the company is still there. There web site is http://metrogranite.com/. Several others on this board have had the same experience.

RayW,
Where did you get your Zodiac?
And, how long have you had your countertops?
We are very interested in quartz, and this is the first time I've heard from someone who has it!

I’m not sure who my contractor hired to install my countertop. He and I had issues and he ended up walking off the job before my house was complete. I will check with his ex-partner next time I see him and let you know. They were installed around October 2006. I am notorious for not taking care of anything (except my espresso machine ) and I have done all kinds of bad things to my countertop including letting my cast iron rust on it. It still looks as good as the day it was installed.

Levi is the owner of the company and he is still there! I spoke to him a few minutes ago and he is alive and well! So by all means when you call "Ask for Levi."

I stand corrected. Levi changed his web site to www.metroplexgranite.com . I had called the phone number on the old website and was told Levi was no longer with the company. They were "unaware" if he was still installing granite.
Sorry Levi. The work on my kitchen was outstanding and if Levi is still available, he's your guy.

I just had my beautiful granite countertops installed in my kitchen by Metro Marble and Granite. I worked with Levi Walker the owner and his installers were great. He has an awesome website: www.metroplexgranite.com. I highly recommend his company.

That's what I was going to suggest. If you only need one thing done or two things that are related...I believe its ALWAYS better to seek someone who does strictly what you need done. NOT a "General Contractor" or the "Big Guys". The "Big Guys" hire the little guys to do their work and generally don't pay too well. It's a volume thing for them, not a quality thing. Just my 2 cents.

Hi - We are looking at Zodiac Quartz too. I love the fact that it is more stain and scratch resistant than granite. If you go to Dupont's website they have a list of their certified contractors in the area. At least that is a place to start... Good luck and if you decide to go with it, let us know how it goes!

How do the prices compare between granite and quartz? I am in the process of doing a minor remodel of my kitchen. We took down the wallpaper and painted. We have tile picked out for the back splash as well. We have the old fashioned formica countertops. I would dearly love to replace them but we have a limited budget.

Both are expensive but I believe the cost is about the same. I think ours was about $50 a square foot.

We went with granite. Do you know who you are buying it from??? We used Gage's Granite out of Dallas and their quote came in $4000 less than Lowes!
Here is their link if you want to get a quote on granite.

If you are considering granite countertops, call Texas Granite Direct! I just had my countertops replaced and TGD did a fantastic job at an excellent price. Hadi is very customer service oriented and made sure that everything was done as we agreed and there were no surprises. We did 95 cubic feet so he "threw in the kitchen sink!"
You can't go wrong with TGD for quality and value.
